Health & Safety Specialist, Manufacturing – Ditch Witch

Your Opportunity:
The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting in ensuring the safety of the workplace. This person accomplishes this by coordinating, administering, and implementing comprehensive programs in occupational and industrial safety. The H&S Specialist will respond to reported injuries to evaluate current best practices and recommend changes where necessary.

Work Location / Environments:

This opportunity is 5-shifts on-site at the 30-acre Ditch Witch® division headquarters in Perry, OK. (Fully Remote, Hybrid, or other work locations/offices are not available at this time).

Office 50% and Manufacturing Plan environment 50%. The manufacturing environment includes: variable temperature and humidity, and noise; Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, moving machinery, arc-welding and other electrical equipment, and high-voltage power supplies; Hazardous materials such as fuels, oils, grease, paint, solvents, coolant, pressurized gases, various acids and caustics, cleaners, metals and batteries. Outdoor work will be in all kinds of weather.

A flexible and variable work schedule, with hours that vary according to the needs of the job. During emergencies, this employee must work until the job is finished. This will include coverage of second and/or third shifts, as necessary. Rapidly changing workload, demands, schedules, and deadlines.

Rapidly changing workloads and priorities, multiple requests from numerous managers, and conflicting deadlines.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

Actively encourage a culture of safety by providing training and promoting the importance of maintaining a safe work environment for Ditch Witch.

Represent the department as both an ambassador and active partner when interacting with other departments to help create a team atmosphere and common goals that serve the best and finest interests and corporate objectives of the company.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local.

Perform incident investigations to identify root causes and generate recommendations to reduce or eliminate hazards.
-
Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental health and safety requirements. Perform follow-up investigations to verify effectiveness.

Conduct ergonomic studies and lead Ergonomic Team; lead the Safety Team; and lead the ER Team.

Plan, organize, develop, and implement various required occupational safety training programs. Develop, review, and revise written safety related plans.

Injury, First Aid, Near Miss and First Response – Assist with treatment guidance, especially on second and third shifts. 5 why root cause – TSS data entry. Workmans Compensation Claims Entry. Corrective follow-up.

Hearing Tests/Retests/Audiologist STS follow up.
-
SDS Management – Chemical review.
-
PPE selection review.
-
IH activities as needed.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
-
High school diploma or equivalent required.
-
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information; with strong verbal and written communication skills..
-
Ability to manage large workload and work effectively in high pressure situations.
-
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
-
Excellent planning and organizational skills are required to work in a demanding environment.
-
Ability to lead various EHS Teams with professionalism and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification, Associates Degree, or BA/BS degree specializing in Health and Safety preferred.

Prior Ditch Witch, American Augers, Ventrac or related experience preferred.

Basic knowledge of EHS terminology and requirements preferred.
-
Participation in safety committees or internal audits preferred.

Competitive Salary – A reasonable pay range for this opportunity is $62,000-$75,000. The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
