Role:
Function is building a new era of health content—smarter, sharper, more human. We’re looking for a Senior Art Director who can make it unforgettable. In this role, you will lead and define the visual direction for our editorial (organic social) team. As Senior Art Director, you’ll set the creative tone for all organic social content—especially video—ensuring every piece stops the scroll, earns attention, and builds trust. You’ll collaborate closely with scriptwriters, producers, and editors to transform compelling narratives into visually engaging, social-first experiences. You know how to guide a viewer through dynamic storytelling in 30 seconds or less, mastering visual pacing and tone. As the team leader, you’ll directly manage two Senior Brand Designers. Key Responsibilities:
- Set the visual tone and motion language for video-first storytelling across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and beyond.
- Lead a team of 3 designers on organic social. Mentor 2 direct reports and help them grow.
- Partner with scriptwriters to concept, storyboard, and direct visual narratives for short-form video, editorial content, and episodic social.
- Translate scripts into visual treatments, references, and storyboards for production teams.
- Art direct shoots, edits, and animations—ensuring the story stays intact and the visuals elevate the message. Travel will occasionally be required.
- Work across a variety of video formats including short-form interview, explainers, and motion-driven narratives.
- Create visual toolkits and design systems for consistent storytelling across content series.
- Collaborate with video editors, animators, illustrators, and creative ops to bring content to life, on time and on brand.
- Approach editing with a sharp eye to maintain quality, pacing, and brand tone.
- Contribute design ideas and art direction to evolve our non-video organic social posts.
Qualifications/Skills:
- 5–7+ years of experience in design, art direction, or content-focused creative roles.
- 2-3 years of team management experience.
- A reel or portfolio that shows range, restraint, and creativity across video, motion, and digital content. Applicants who don’t share samples of their work will not be considered.
- Strong storytelling instincts—knowing what image lands, when to cut, and how to keep people watching.
- Experience guiding content from idea through production in collaboration with writers, producers, and editors.
- Deep knowledge of visual and motion design for social, digital, and video formats.
- Comfort directing freelance and internal talent across design and video.
- A bias for action, a high bar for taste, and a love of visual clarity.
Nice-to-Have Skills and Experiences:
- Have experience directing documentary-style content or branded storytelling.
- Can work directly in motion or editing software (After Effects, Premiere, CapCut, etc.)
- Are energized by health, science, or culture-driven storytelling.
