Job title: Senior Detection Specialist  – 12 months FTC

Location: UK 

Overview of the role: 

We have an exciting new role in our Cyber Security Operations Centre for a Senior Detection Specialist who is enthusiastic, organised and enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  This is a superb opportunity for a suitably experienced individual to directly influence and improve the security posture of the company. 

In this role you will become a pivotal member of the Detection team within our Security Operations Centre supporting the organization’s cyber defence strategy.  The Cyber Security team provides an exciting and challenging environment, using best of breed tools and methodologies to protect and strengthen the company’s IT platforms. 

This is a superb opportunity for a suitably experienced individual to directly influence and improve the security posture of the company. 

What you’ll do:  

  • Maintain and uplift Security Operations Detection maturity through development and ongoing enhancements of documentation, procedures and policies. 

  • In line with current threats and industry best practices, identify and implement opportunities to improve detection capability using security tooling. 

  • Monitor and analyse security events and data from various sources for suspicious activities including firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus systems, endpoint logs and cloud applications. 

  • Use advanced detection techniques, including anomaly detection, to identify potential threats. 

  • Support the Detection Lead and Security Operations with operational efficiencies with respect to detection initiatives, OLAs and reporting. Ad-hoc requests with respect to Detection responsibilities may be included as part of operational requirements. 

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to Security Operations Detection activities. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance maturity of security tooling. 

  • Provide mentoring, training, and guidance to SOC analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement in relation to Detection. 

  • Coordinate with other IT and security teams to mitigate threats and ensure timely resolution of incidents. 

  • Develop and maintain the organisation’s operational readiness plans, including emergency response protocols, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity strategies 

  • Prepare and submit reports as required by regulators, auditors, as part of incident response, training and readiness assessments. 

  • This role may require on-call availability to assist with and resolve issues related to Detection rules and content 

What you’ll bring:  

  • Experience in Technology or Cyber Security, with demonstrated experience in detection, incident response, threat intelligence and threat hunting. 

  • In-depth knowledge of security monitoring tools, SIEM solutions, and threat intelligence platforms. 

  • Familiarity with network protocols, operating systems, and the latest cybersecurity threats and trends. 

  • Ability to adapt to evolving threats and technologies, ensuring the security infrastructure remains robust and effective. 

  • Experience with security tools such as AWS Cloud, Guard Duty, AWS Config, AWS Inspector and AWS Security Hub, Prowler, SIEM, endpoint protection, proxy, cloud security and vulnerability scanners. 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Security, Information Security, or a related field would be beneficial.
