About Remote

Remote is solving modern organizations’ biggest challenge – navigating global employment compliantly with ease. We make it possible for businesses of all sizes to recruit, pay, and manage international teams. With our core values at heart and future focused work culture, our team works tirelessly on ambitious problems, asynchronously, around the world. You can find Remoters working from 6 different continents (Antarctica left to go!) and all of our positions are fully remote.
We encourage every member of the Remote team to bring their talents, experiences and culture to the table to help us build the best-in-class HR platform.

If you are energetic, curious, motivated and ambitious, be part of our world. Apply now and define the future of work!

This position

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Remote, you’ll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our global platform. You’ll focus on scalability, automation, and reliability while collaborating closely with product and security teams in an async-first, fully remote environment. This is a hands-on role where technical expertise meets values-driven teamwork.

What you’ll bring

  • Solid professional experience in a Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps Engineering or SysOps role
  • Expert level using:
    • Kubernetes
    • AWS
    • Terraform
    • CI/CD (GitLab, Github, Jenkins or similar)
    • Docker
    • Bash scripting
  • Clear and thoughtful communication, especially in an async-first, global setting
  • Proactive, curious, and comfortable taking ownership of challenges
  • Collaborative and respectful across cultures, time zones, and backgrounds
  • Strong alignment with Remote’s values: intensity, transparency, and intensity

Nice to have

  • Experience with 1 back-end programming language (Elixir, Golang, Nodejs, Python, etc)
  • Experience running and configuring Linux systems in a non-cloud environment
  • Security knowledge and capabilities from a defensive and offensive standpoint

What you’ll do

  • Manage and improve our existing infrastructure
  • Help build the next generation of our platform using tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and Docker
  • Streamline and automate deployment processes to enable fast, reliable delivery
  • Partner with our Security team to stay ahead of potential threats and patches
  • Collaborate with engineers and product teams in an async-first way, improving scalability, stability, and reliability across our systems.
  • We work primarily in an asynchronous way, which means you’ll have a high degree of ownership over how you manage and prioritize your work. While the team shares an overall vision and goals, we don’t rely on managers assigning day-to-day tasks. Instead, we value people who can identify opportunities, spot issues, and take the initiative to drive projects forward independently.
  • Collaborate to build and improve our observability infrastructure for monitoring, logging, and tracing.
  • Participate in incident response and on-call rotations to rapidly resolve issues and maintain system reliability.
  • Contribute to a supportive and transparent team culture by sharing knowledge, providing thoughtful feedback, and taking ownership of solutions

Practicals

  • You’ll report to: SRE Team Lead
  • Team: Engineering
  • Location: For this hire, due to diversity and timezones requirements, we’re prioritising Europe
  • Start date: As soon as possible

Application process

  1. Interview with recruiter
  2. Interview with HM
  3. (async) Infrastructure exercise (you’re not expected to spend more than 2 – 4 hours)
  4. Interview with the team (without any manager in the call so you can really get to know the people and ask all you want to ask)
  5. Bar Raiser Interview
  6. Executive Interview – VP of Engineering

At first glance our salary bands seem quite wide – here is some context. At Remote we have international operations and a globally distributed workforce. We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.
At Remote, we foster internal mobility as a key element of our culture of employee growth and development, supported by a compensation philosophy that guarantees pay equity and fairness. Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.

The annual salary range for this full-time position is$51,000—$115,000 USD
