Job Overview:
APTIM is currently seeking a Sprinkler/Pipefitter Technician experienced in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of various Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) fire suppression systems to support our anticipated backlog of project work at Department of Defense (DOD) facilities nationwide.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Selects types and sizes of pipe and related materials, such as supports, pipe fittings, and gaskets
- Inspect work sites to determine presence of obstacles and hazards.
- Familiarity with pipe components such as valves, check valves, and fittings.
- Plan sequence of draining and demolition of sections of pipe.
- Cut pipe and storage tanks using reciprocating saw and plasma cutter.
- Thread pipe using threading machine.
- Familiarity with Victaulic pipe and fittings.
- Demolish and cap a variety of metal or non-metal pipes and pipe fittings.
- Secure pipes to structures using hand and power tools.
- Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
- Load, transport, and unload material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist in lifting and securing of material during demolition.
- Respiratory protection may be occasionally required, particularly for downsizing fiberglass tanks.
Basic Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship with ability to pass a background check for access to DOD Facilities.
- Valid Driver’s License with few/no recent moving violations.
- Ability to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Physical work is required including lifting, climbing, crawling, carrying, pushing, pulling, and kneeling.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Must be able to work in the field in all types of field conditions/weather.
- Willingness and ability to travel 80% or more of the time across the U.S., working 2-4 weeks at a time between trips home. Work is typically Mondays-Fridays with the weekends mostly off when deployed to the jobsite city. Some compensated overtime work is required. On travel days, work before 7 am or after 7 pm may be required.
Optional Qualifications (helpful but not required):
- Work in an active chemical plant or refinery.
- NCCER certification.
- Experience with aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) fire suppression systems.
- Demonstrated experience in multiple fire suppression systems including Dry Systems, Wet Systems, Deluge, and Pre-Action.
- Experience in fire sprinkler system inspections.
- Documented installation or repair experience on at least three AFFF fire suppression systems.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $25/HR – $40/HR Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
