Job-Beschreibung

Who are we and why should you join us?

BetterHelp is on a mission to remove the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Founded in 2013, we are now the world’s largest online therapy service, providing affordable and convenient therapy in across the globe. Our network of over 30,000 licensed therapists has helped millions of people take ownership of their mental health and change their lives forever. And we’re not stopping there – as the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to being part of the solution.

As the Sr. Clinical Product Liaison, AI at BetterHelp, you’ll join a diverse team of licensed clinicians, engineers, product pros, creatives, marketers, and business leaders who share a passion for expanding access to therapy. And as a mental health company, we take employee mental health just as seriously as we do our mission. We deeply invest in our team’s well-being and professional development, because we know that business and individual growth go hand-in-hand. At BetterHelp, you’ll carve your own path, make an immediate impact, and be challenged every day – with a supportive community behind you the whole way.

What are we looking for?

At BetterHelp, we’re building safe, effective AI tools that support both members and clinicians throughout the mental health journey—and we’re growing our team to accelerate this work. We’re seeking a mission-driven individual with clinical care experience and familiarity with AI to join BetterHelp’s Clinical Care Transformation Team, which brings together strategy, quality, and clinical product expertise to drive clinical excellence across the platform. In this cross-functional role, you will help guide AI initiatives and emerging care models, elevate clinical quality across BetterHelp, and serve as a critical bridge between clinical and product teams to uphold the highest standards of safety, integrity, and client outcomes.

This role centers on ensuring BetterHelp’s AI features and outputs meet rigorous clinical, safety, and compliance standards while contributing to long-term AI strategy. You will lead the AI Clinical Quality Assurance program—developing clinical standards, evaluation rubrics, and review processes; assessing AI outputs for safety, ethics, and clinical integrity; and translating insights into meaningful improvements across AI tools and workflows. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a growth mindset, grounded in clinical quality and energized by the rapid evolution of AI in healthcare, with experience in telemedicine and AI applications and a passion for improving therapeutic outcomes through responsible, innovative technology.

What will you do?

  • Help develop and refine QA frameworks, testing protocols, evaluation rubrics and monitoring systems for AI tools.
  • Audit AI outputs for clinical safety, accuracy, bias, and alignment with therapeutic and regulatory standards.
  • Review and assess AI-related escalations from BetterHelp therapists, clients, and/or customer-facing teams.
  • Generate clear, actionable AI Clinical QA reports; communicate findings with cross-functional partners; and translate findings into actionable improvements.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML, Product, Data Science, Engineering, Legal and Compliance teams to evaluate, test, and validate AI features and capabilities.
  • Participate in risk-assessment processes for new and evolving AI tools and ensure adherence to evolving ethical and regulatory expectations.
  • Provide clinical input to guide improvements to model behavior, prompting strategies, feature design, and user workflows.
  • Contribute to research studies or evaluations related to AI efficacy and safety.
  • Support Clinical Department initiatives, including office hours, newsletters, and other team programs as needed.
  • Represent BetterHelp externally in public events, webinars, presentations and/or conferences.

What will you NOT do?

  • You will NOT worry about “runway”, “cash left”, or “how much time we have until the next round”. We have the startup DNA but we’re fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
  • You will NOT be confined to your “job”. You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
  • You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
  • You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our San Jose, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree (Masters or Doctorate) in counseling, psychology, or social work.
  • Clinical background in mental health (e.g., psychotherapy, telemedicine, digital mental health, or related care settings)
  • Knowledge of emerging AI regulatory frameworks and best practices for AI in mental health (e.g., crisis response models and digital escalation workflows).
  • Experience working in AI, technology, or data science applications in healthcare settings.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance, auditing, and compliance processes, including privacy, security and confidentiality standards in mental healthcare.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate clinical expertise into clear operational and product guidance for AI systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfort operating in fast-paced, data-driven environments.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Growth mindset, curiosity, and a passion for advancing mental health care through safe and innovative technologies.
  • Broad understanding of evidenced based therapeutic approaches and current clinical trends.

Bonus

  • Specialized degrees, certifications, or training in AI.
  • Familiarity with LLM evaluation methods and/or direct experience in AI evaluation.
  • Background in data analytics or research.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and processes with minimal direction.

  • Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution
